We simply cannot survive fully and create a life for ourselves unless we have those basics of life. The luxuries and status, in life such only make up 10% of our overall happiness. We we all have things which when we first gained in our lives, like a new phone, or shoes and we're so happy of them. That emotion is temporary, after a while our happiness goes back to average. The same with losing possessions and status, we may later break that shoe or smash that phone and we are devastated, but thats temporary. So material possession are not everything, it is nice to have good things and it does account to some happiness.
